RUMOR MILL
Tru Sol headed to Charlotte?
In prompting folks to vote in this year's "Grand Strand Best Cover Band" contest last week, I came across an interesting tidbit which I had to follow up on regard one of the area's most well-respected party bands.
"Only only drawback in voting for Tru Sol is that they are probably leaving the beach for Charlotte, so we have a winner that is not here any longer," wrote MyrtleBeachPromotions.com owner Gary Farrington.
At closer look, there was indeed a status update from Tru Sol band president Dorian Samuel dated Feb. 6 that stated simply "Thinking real hard about moving to Charlotte."
The 30-some comments that followed ranged from those of the "please don't go" variety to the "congrats on moving on up..." type.
I followed up with Samuel to see if there was any truth to this rumor to which he confirmed the longtime local group is considering a move to the Tarheel state.
"We are really thinking about moving," he wrote. "I think It would be a great opportunity for us. Having set a date or anything yet, just brainstorming to see what's best...I will keep you posted."
Though it's hard to imagine not running across an occasional "Tru Sol Party" full of lively locals partying the night away, there's no doubt that even if the group does head north they'll still make frequent trips to their hometown where they've built such a solid following.
Check out the band's website here, read our past interview with Samuel and vocalist Sheryta Spears or check out details on their show tonight at Zulu Lounge.
