Marshi-Gras returns for Fat Tuesday on the Inlet
This year’s Mardi Gras celebration is just around the corner, but who needs to travel to New Orleans when you can celebrate right here in Murrells Inlet?
This month, the Marsh Walk Restaurant Group will host its 2nd Annual “Marshi Gras” Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 21 (aka Fat Tuesday).
For one night, the promenade which lines Murrells Inlet’s saltwater marsh will turn into the area's own version of Bourbon Street as attendees don garish costumes, sport various party favors, and exchange beads in celebration of last night before the start of the Lenten season.

Building on a successful first year for the event, area restauranteurs hope for an even larger turnout now that word has gotten out about the event.
“Last year, it really floored us with how many people came out, so we’re hoping for a big turnout this year,” said David Owens, owner of Dave’s Dockside Waterfront Restaurant.
The night’s main event is a Mardi Gras parade beginning at 6 p.m. Led by a strolling Dixieland band, the parade will begin at Bovine's on one end of the Marshwalk and meander down travelling in and out of each restaurant before turning back and ending near Wahoo's.
Attendees are encouraged to participate in the parade, however, spectators are welcome as well.
Each restaurant on the marsh will serve its own version of dishes cooked to taste like the famous Creole food the French Quarter is known for.
Following the entertainment outdoors, participants such as Creek Ratz, Dave’s Dockside, Dead Dog Saloon and others, will have live music throughout the night ranging from rock and party music to smooth jazz and more laid-back fare.
“It’s just a big party,” said Owens.
Dinner and drink specials at the particpating restaurants will start at 6 p.m. as well.
And for those who want to go all out, there will be a contest for best costume with over $1,000 in cash prizes and two lucky partiers will win the crown of “Marshi Gras” King and Queen.
Here's a look at some of the entertainment along the Marshwalk that night, check with individual restaurants for a full list of entertainment:
