House of Blues announces lineup for The Deck, Bike Week

Myrtle Beach Music: fans hang out by the outdoor bar behind HOB during the Dog Day Afternoon event in April 2011.

Something new is coming to the House of Blues this summer, and the north end venue is giving local fans a sneak peak of its upcoming plans with a series of outdoor shows this spring.

In June, the outdoor bar and stage area located behind the HOB restaurant — formerly known as the Sugar Shack Deck — will now become known as simply "The Deck" and will host regional and touring acts 6-7 nights per week.

"We are finalizing details now but it will be sponsored and promoted as a 'beach type party' with MC-hosted contests, cornhole tournaments and more," wrote promotions manager Anne Marie Bailey via e-mail. "We are changing the look of the deck, adding sand pits and some cool furnishings as well."

But never ones to miss out on an opportunity for entertainment, HOB is getting a head start on bringing bands into the area with a string of Summer Concert Series shows in April and May. Each Friday and Saturday the stage will host a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. with live music to follow at 8 p.m.

Though the acts are all of the cover band variety, HOB is keeping things fresh with groups that focus on 90s and current hits and are bringing in talent from as far away as Alabama, Nashville, Pennsylvania and Chicago.

Each of the Summer Concert Series shows are free to attend and will take place each weekend in April and May, except for during bike week when the area will be part of Throttle Fest, a 3-day biker friendly music event sponsored by HOB and Full Throttle Saloon.

During Throttle Fest, which runs May 17-19, The Deck will feature live entertainment from noon to midnight each day with a string of acts including Southern Rockers DB Bryant Band from Florence, the Georgia-based Nigel Dupree Band, Myrtle Beach's own Power Born Rebellion, The Full Throttle Flaunt Girls and more.

Also during this time, the main concert hall will also host back-to-back-to-back headline events with Theory of a Deadman on May 17, The Marshall Tucker Band on May 18 and Jackyl on May 19. In addition, there will be appearances by the entire cast of Tru TV's Full Throttle Saloon reality show including Mike Ballard, Jesse Dupree, Angie Goat, The Flaunt Girls & The Full Throttle Bartenders.

Tickets for all the Throttle Fest events and can be purchased online at or by calling 272-3000. For more information on House of Blues and all its upcoming Summer Concert Series shows on The Deck, visit them on Facebook or follow @HOBMB on Twitter.
