    Afroman to play Drink!

Afroman may not be a name that many music fans recoginize, but there's a certain crowd — mostly high school and college students in the early 2000s and pot smokers — who remember his 2001 top 10 hit "Because I Got High" with a certain fondness. For those former fans and anyone else looking for a night of fun, party tunes, the rapper will bring his 40oz iPod Tour to Drink! on Oct. 15.

The amicable rapper, whose albums include "The Good Times" "Afronolic" and "Waiting to Inhale",  made his mark on the music world making good-natured, hard-partying tracks about drinkin and smoking the night away.

But after so many years of practicing what he preached, Afroman realized he had substance abuse issues and cleaned up his act. He still performs the party anthems that made him a hit, but has also focused his newer work on some different themes.

"I caught a lot of flak for having so many drug references in my music, so I wanted to give cats a few songs that are really good but don't say anything about drugs," reveals the singer. "For example, on 'Cali Swangin',' I'm talking about low-riding, which I really love to do. That's one of my hobbies -- it's kind of like skateboarding to me. I've also got another tune called 'Just My Paranoia' that's simply my interpolation of the song 'Just My Imagination.'"

He's currently touring the southeast with about 20 shows in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi over the next two months. For more information on the tour or to listen to Afroman's music, click here.

Legends in Concert to make move to Broadway at the Beach

The new Legends in Concert, home of shows in Myrtle BeachLegends in Concert, a chain of theaters known for its tribute artist performances, announced today that it has entered a long-term partnership with Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc, to perform its live shows in Myrtle Beach. The agreement means that the attraction, which is currently located at 301 Business S.C. 17 South, Surfside Beach, will soon occupy the former Club Kryptonite building adjacent to Planet Hollywood at Broadway at the Beach.

The performer line-up for the new theater, which is scheduled to debut on March 11, 2011, will be released in the coming weeks.

Legends in Concert, owned by the Las Vegas-based entertainment production company On Stage Entertainment, first burst onto the Las Vegas stage nearly 30 years ago, and owns locations in Las Vegas, Branson, Mo., on international cruise ships, and at multiple live venues around the country.

The Surfside Beach Legends location, which took over the former Carolina Opry building nearly 15 years ago, will end its 2010 season early to allow adequate construction time for major renovations before opening at its new location.

Performances at Legends In Concert's current theater in Surfside Beach will continue through Wednesday, Oct. 6. For more information on Legends in Concert, or ticket availability for its final shows in Myrtle Beach, visit www.legendsinconcert.com.

"We love the intimacy of our new venue, and our loyal Legends fans and new guests are certain to enjoy the renovations, as well as the introduction of many exciting enhancements,” said Chris Beattie, regional general manager for Legends in Concert. “We look forward to the future in our fabulous new state-of-the-art entertainment facility. Our new location will enable our fans to enjoy a fantastic array of over 100 hotels, restaurants, shopping destinations and other entertainment attractions that will only be steps away from our front door.”

The new theater is being designed by architect Tom Miller of Miller Design Services of Myrtle Beach. The renovations will result in a classic, yet comfortable Las Vegas-style showroom which will be a uniquely-styled public assembly venue in the Myrtle Beach marketplace.

Legends in Concert's new home will boast 600 seats. Its innovative design will create an intimate concert space. Each cushy, relaxed seat will have great sight lines to the stage and generous legroom. Spectacular projection screens will be positioned around the theater. The performances will take place daily, utilizing a similar seasonal weekly schedule well-known by Grand Strand fans.

    Bonner's Beloved to play Droopy's

Dearly beloved Myrtle Beach locals spot Droopy's -- who has made a reputation for bringing in a variety of up-and-coming acts on Wednesday nights -- will host folk group Ryan Bonner and The Dearly Beloved tonight beginning at 10 p.m.

The show will be a chance for Charleston native Bonner and his band to bring their honest style of acoustic-driven folk music to a beach crowd who would rather get out and groove to some live music than batten down the hatches as Tropical Storm Nicole rolls through the area.

In addition to Bonner — a multi instriumentalist raised on James Isalnd — the act consists of The Dearly Beloved, an ensemble composed of Cory Jarrett on mandolin and guitar, Josh Smoak on keys, Malin Wagnon on Bass, and Jack Friel on drums. The group came together after Bonner returned to Charleston from four years of studying and playing shows at Clemson University in 2008.

At that time they began working on their debut album "Monsters in the Hallway" which was released earlier in March as an EP.

Here's a sample of "Anna Leigh" a free download of the album, which is available along with a few  other "Monsters" track at http://ryanbonnerandthedearlybeloved.bandcamp.com/

Ryan Bonner & The Dearly Beloved "Anna Leigh"

With the help of Smoak—who doubles as the band's producer— Bonner and the Beloved split time recoding the album together at their own Blue Curtain Studios and at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, N.C. under the direction of Danny Kadar. Kadar has worked with big names such as The Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

According to Bonner pinning down the band's sound can be tough to confine to a single genre, but on some songs you can’t help but compare it to Ryan Adams or Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco fame).

Those who make it out can expect plenty of the band's original songs — earnest melodies driven by emotion and punctuated by an occasional burst on the harmonica — but will also likely hear a few covers mixed into the set.

"We always throw two or three covers into a set," Bonner told the Post & Courier earlier this year. "We do some Rolling Stones. We've done a Bright Eyes song or two. We've done some Beatles. We try to mix it up. You can't go wrong with the Beatles."

As for what's to come for Bonner and the group.  Future plans include recording Bonner's own full-length album touring, song-writing and melding musical avenues.

"We've got some new stuff that we're already working on for the next record," he said.

He adds, "We really want to play out of town and in some other markets," a good sign for Myrtle Beach fans who make it out to tonight's show and like what they hear.
