Hip-Hop All-Stars Vol. 1 at The Music Station Sept. 2

Following last month's ListenUp Loves Hip-Hop showcase, we've had an outpouring of response from artists and fans alike, all of who want to hear more REAL hip-hop here without all the hype and hassle that often comes with the local club scene.

So we've done it once again, this time taking the talent to one of the area's best up and coming venues The Music Station at Socastee Station for the first in what we hope will become a monthly series of All-urban music events called Hip-Hop All-Stars.

Thrown in conjunction with Still Chiefin' Ent. — run by longtime area MC James Turner (aka Chief J) — Volume 1 of this local showcase will take place Sept. 2, wrapping up the summer with a Labor Day Weekend Kickoff Party to remember.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. and go until the last of eight local acts has done their thing, with an after party to follow at Club Crush Gentlemen's Club (off U.S. 17 Bypass near the Back Gate).

Featured on the inaugural edition of Hip-Hop All-Stars will be three of the same talented acts featured at the ListenUp Loves show with The FAM, Young Hood and QP-N-Shamroc all making return trips to the stage.

In addtion some of the rawest local talent around will perform including veteran rappers RAW ENT. feat. Gunnz & Critical, Shephard Holmes and Chief J himself, who will perform live on stage for the first time in eight years.

Rounding out the bill will be some of the freshest new talent on the Grand Strand with EpadeMC and a newly-minted live hip-hop band The Mint making the trip up from Georgetown to wow the crowd with original tunes and classic hip-hop tracks that will have the crowd moving all night long.

Check out this footage from last month's show at the Island Bar Surfside:

"We are a band that's like your record collection," said Drivin' N Cryin' frontman Kevin Kinney in one his band's first interviews back in the 1980s.

That long ago comment is a great way to sum up the diversity of the Atlanta-based act's nearly 25 year run of making rock music steeped in strong Southern roots.

And though the days of record collections have come and gone, the metaphor remains a gentle reminder of the awesome old-school appeal Drivin' N Cryin' will bring back to the beach on Sept. 9 as they perform Pirate's Cove Lounge in North Myrtle Beach.

Combining classic stuff from the band's succesful "Whisper Tames The Lion" with material from 2009's "Great American Bubble Factory"and everything in between, the show is sure to be a night to remember. It will be the group's second stop on the Grand Strand this year, following an appearance at the Boathouse in April.
